We're seeking a distributed learning network for "Know Your Watershed" Eco-Challenge courseware that complements the Oregon-California Trail emigration experience.

A Whale of a Tale

  • This is interactive software series designed to help students learn basic skills in math, reading, science and social studies.
  • These multimedia series uses animated cartoon characters to add an interesting storyline to the delivery of key curriculum concepts.

 

The program is pedagogically sound with an expert in primary curriculum development retained as the content consultant. The program is ideal for use both in school and at home.

1. Set up a display of plant and animal picture books.

 

2. Arrange the students in groups of 4.

 

3. Provide each student with a worksheet as follows:

Organism Producer Consumer Decomposer Herbivore Carnivore Omnivore

4. Each student in the group selects a book and peruses it for plants and animals. As each plant or animal is located, the student writes its name (e.g. grass, rabbit) on the worksheet and places a X in the appropriate column(s).

 

5. The students may consult other group members when encountering difficulty in categorizing a plant or animal.
