The City of De Soto was laid out in the spring of 1857and was named for the Spanish explorer, Hernando deSoto.
In 1858, John Possum, a Shawnee Indian, and Hattie Possum sold 80 acres to John F. Legate, S. Todd and Stratton and Williams for $1,200. The next sale was 80 acres to the De Soto Town Co. in July of 1861 for $1,176. The land, part of the Louisiana Purchase, cost the U.S. 3 cents per acre. It was given to John Possum who sold the first tract at $15 per acre.
Originally, Shawnee Street was the “main street” of town because it ran down to the river and ferry crossing. In addition, Major James B. Abbott is remembered as one of the town’s pioneer landowners and the builder of Abbot Hall, located at 83rd Street and Peoria. Today, Abbot Hall is the town museum.
With the construction of the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant De Soto boomed in the early 1940’s with people coming from all over the United States to work at the plant.

Education (Tech-Rich-Classroom)H-M-L Tectology is a term coined by Alexander Bogdanov scientist, philosopher, economist, physician, novelist, poet, and Marxist revolutionary, for a discipline that consisted of unifying all social, biological and physical sciences, by considering them as systems of relationships, and by seeking the organizational principles that underly all systems.
His work Tektology: Universal Organization Science, finished by the early 1920s, anticipated many of the ideas that were popularized later by Norbert Wiener in Cybernetics and Ludwig von Bertalanffy in the General Systems Theory.
Applications Systems thinking is increasingly being used to tackle a wide variety of subjects in fields such as computing, engineering, epidemiology, information science, health, manufacture, management, and the environment.
For example: Organisation Design and Development Job Design Team Population and Work Unit Design Linear and Complex Process Design Supply Chain Design Business continuity planning with FMEA protocol Critical Infrastructure Protection via FBI Infragard Delphi method — developed by RAND for USAF Futures studies — Thought leadership mentoring Leadership development Oceanography — forecasting complex systems behavior Quality function deployment (QFD) Quality management — Hoshin planning methods Quality storyboard — StoryTech framework (LeapfrogU-EE) Software quality
