I think facebook has changed things around and I just saw now that our facebook page has a search box and a tab for files. If we were chatting there, we could search the conversations afterwards. Next issue is to decide whether we want to pursue the idea of doing a crowdsourcing thing to get the ball rolling, start building our brand by trying to raise somewhere around $5,000 for blankets, etc. The idea is a success will bring more success. More and more success will build the brand. As the brand grows it will radically increase the probability of raising the $16,000 faster. And eventually getting on the radar of someone who can write a $500,000 check.

Working as a team with all transperancy and accountability, and for the approved project by government administration office of Bhutan sense legal for for collecting money. I guess Bhutan Foundation and Loden Foundation is doing the same things setting their branches in third countries.

I think the Blankets for Bhutan Boarders crowdsourcing event would have the advantage of reelaying the sense of urgency to get things going. The children will chiver all through the winter if funds are not raised before a certain date (time when the cold sets in minus the time it will take @Bhandari Bhai Bhandari to get the blanket kits to them once the funds are collected). Mothers will respond to this simple plea and our success will make us visible and open the door to more opportunities, as @M Ichael Josefowicz said above.

Would a letter and video from @Bhandari Bhai Bhandari suffice? If @Ben Honeycutt can help us, that is great. If he cannot get the endorsement of his board of directors, he can still help by telling us in what capacity he would have helped and we can ask for that same support from other organizations. For example, perhaps a church or a Bhuddist organization would be willing to make tax receipts to important donors on our behalf and transfer funds in a legal way to our charity, via Loden if necessary.

Blanket supply for school kids is out of first step of pkoso project. But there is a need if am able to buy and drop them each so they can sleep well during cold winter days.

I have given 260 pairs of foot wears to that village school kids out of my own little earnings saved.

while we keep on the path of $500,000 I think it would make sense to do what we might be able to do to make the work you are already doing easier and be able to reach more children.

Anything we can do to help you do what you are already doing for the children, increases the probability of the success of the project as a whole. Your energy is the most important resource we have.

Curating the internet is a task, and that is what @Dmi is trying to do.

Some appreciation from you of that would be helpful, whether or not you consider it entirely feasible. And it can be feasible, if we take Wikipedia as one example.

I also ask you to consider the dangers of over focus.

By concentrating on one track, and refusing to accept possible mistakes, and a need for back tracking, we may not notice the land falling away to either side, and our path becoming a narrow ridge with dangers to either side.

Focus can be good for short term work, but we also need wider perspective when understanding where we are and where we are heading.

Again, both are needed.

The part that scares me about the artificial intelligence approach is the suggestion that decisons should be based on data. If the data selection or screening at the input level cannot be done by the client (any undeveloped country) for technical reasons, it becomes biased by outside forces. It is like working from the outside in, but living things and energy systems get their drive from the inside and radiate outwards, usually in a round pattern (the sun, living cells, etc.). The WHY that some of you have said should be the driving force, perhaps. If we put the "what" as the basis of decision making, it feels square, not organic. Thinking of it in Jungian terms, we have different preferences when it comes to using our Thinking, Feeling, Sensation and Intuition functions. If Sensation (data) is a person's or a group's dominant function, it will not see the value of Intuition, but in fact Intuition is just a way of using data in quantum leaps. The visionary sees the goal and the soundness of the goal without having to sift through intermediary steps. On the other hand, if Thinking is your dominant function, then you are able to see and use both Sensation and Intuition - they are both auxiliary functions or tools for you and neither is a blind spot. It is fine to use data, I would just suggest to be careful about the language you use to sell it. Decision making should not be prohibited outside of the safe ground of data.

There is a beautiful documentary called 'Living on One Dollar'. (It's on Netflix right now.) There seems to be many parallels. Nutrition, health, finances, local entrepreneurship, savings clubs, and education are topics that are touched on.

The savings club is interesting. The idea is that members in the club put in an agreed amount on a regular basis. At the end of a specific period of time, the savings goes to one of the members. Repeat so all are benefited. The idea is that members will have better opportunity to buy larger ticket items. Maybe a stove, or a wedding, or expenses for school.

@M Ichael Josefowicz, I could say that @Bhandari Bhai Bhandari and I met in a past life while escaping/trying to escape from Tibet around 1950. I died during the trek in the mountains, (around the age of 16) but he made it to India and lived another 30 years or so. That is one theory (story). The underlying truth is that we are both Buddhist (even if I am never sure how to spell that). I asked him what prompted him to contact me through facebook and he only said that it was his good fortune. I do not use facebook very much outside of private groups but we had one common friend, Alex Blumental, so perhaps one of us liked something related to buddhism that the other had posted and this is how Bhandari collected my name. He must have written to many people. He struck me as someone authentic right from the beginning.

@Bhandari, it is an ever present fact that humans respond to issues, are more often compelled to take action in that case.

There are three allegorical or metaphor types of action that can take place:

1) Sticking plaster - to fix a problem
2) Sweety - to feel good and have fun
3) Vitamin - to make a long term good impact on general health

Mostly folks prefer the first two, only the wise will take the vitamin type of action which takes effort short term but only delivers results long term.

But there is a serious short term problem here, in that village education is important, and needed now.

So Bhutan Village Children has both vitamin and sticking plaster qualities ...

So here's a crazy idea.

Why not start a business... of sorts, to generate revenue for the project? (And maybe have some other positive side-effects.)

I have not used it myself (yet), but there is a website called Patreon.com. They solve a problem for artists and creators by providing a mechanism that allows those folks to develop a more steady and sustainable income stream.

If you create things, you probably have 'fans' that appreciate your work and would likely be willing to contribute a small amount on a monthly basis (there are different configurations) so that you can continue creating.

What could the children and people off the village offer? Here are just a few ideas that come to mind that I think people would be interested in.

Videos on the types of games children play.

A podcast about the history of the village.

An ongoing documentary video series about the Care Center sharing the stories of the people and children involved.

A series on the culture of the village.

Video 'snapshots' of everyday life in the village.

Lessons/demonstrations on how to speak Khengpa.

Answering -
What is the culture of Gross National Happiness, and how does that play out in peoples lives?

What do people there find funny? What are examples?

Music

Writing
Photography
...

(There might be other revenue streams possible as well for things like music and photography.)

Basically art, creations that help tell stories about the Village.

If children and others in the village are included in this process, they will learn new skills and possibly have another avenue for income that they could pursue. (I think a smartphone and internet connection would be what's needed to get started. Potentially there are some obstacles there for other folks in the village. But can maybe be worked around with some creativity.)

With this model, you're connecting DIRECTLY with the people that would likely care most about this project, and be donating to a charity.

I think it's critically important though that the village stay true to itself. Don't create things you think other people will want. Just be yourselves, and the right people will come and support. It will be a much more solid and authentic relationship that way.

In a draft of the Memorandum of Association that Bhandari was preparing for the charity, under "Powers", there are these two clauses: c) The power to raise funds by organizing children’s talent shows and receive contributions from the government, from any person or persons by way of contributions, donations, fees, and gifts within the Law of CSOA act. d) PKSO shall NOT undertake any permanent trading activities in raising funds for its primary objective. What do people think of clause "d". Could it be it conflict with this sort of quasi-business type of support? I'm not sure of its purpose and if it is a mandatory component for the MOA. It would not be TVICB but TVCIB as in the previous message. As a separate activity - you guys don't need to spend time on this - I want to reflect the contributions being made here, because more projects like this will be needed.

I want to do this quite simply using a badging system.

If you feel you want to acquire a badge, you can do so, or not, it's your choice.

Why is this needed? Because on the wider stage we need folk to show ability in situations they have never encountered before. We will soon need to show we can both offset the possible impact AI can have and also show humans can find ways to contribute in situations that have not as yet been recorded and modelled, meaning AI would struggle to provide answers, at least in the short term.

Badging may seem over simple, but it's a record of our creativity and effort, and shows what collective groups can do.

I'm going to do this anyway, at least creating the badges, and if folk want to join in and claim their badge - assign it to their name - then they can.

In conversation with Bjorn Hallstrom, he is pretty adamant that both http://www.sida.se/English/ and http://um.dk/en/danida-en/ have more responsive and more supportive funding programmes than that operated by the UN. As such, we should explore this fully as part of the funding application we want to kick start the project. Bjorn is very practical about this, and advises us to spend serious time checking funding criteria before making any application, so as not to waste effort on failed applications. His other advice is be absolutely sure to register any fledgling organisation as an NGO, to enable funding bids to succeed. One very smart suggestion Bjorn made about such bids is to include a health angle as well as the education angle, as this broadens the ability to find funding that matches. My suggestion is that this thread is for those who want to concentrate on this first, and then people can dip in and out of other threads as the fancy takes them.
