on the 60th Anniversary of FDR’s “Four Freedoms Speech” (6-Jan-2001), I began wonder how to reinvest the FIFTH Freedom (freedom of influence) deposited by the WWII marines & sailors entombed there.
As of 2011, 70 years after the explosion that destroyed Arizona, oil leaks from the hull still rise to the surface of the water. Arizona continues to leak about a quart (0.95 L) of oil per day into the harbor.[46] Survivors from the crew say that the oil will continue to leak until the last survivor dies.[47] Upon their death, survivors of the attack may have their ashes placed within the ship, among their fallen comrades. Veterans who served aboard the ship at other times may have the ashes scattered in the water above the ship.[48] The Navy, in conjunction with the National Park Service, has recently overseen a comprehensive computerized mapping of the hull, being careful to honor its role as a war grave. The Navy is considering non-intrusive means of abating the continued leakage of oil to avoid the further environmental degradation of the harbor.[49]

emerged after a 2006 National Heritage Area Symposium that the Partnership for National Trail Systems hosted at Westport, MO. I had just returned from doing a prototype Garmin-GPSurvey of Ancient Big Island Coastal Trails south of Hilo and near Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. So, I replicated that process along our Frontier Military Road (K-7 Corridor).
