War Since 1945

Since the end of the Second World War, the U.S. has been involved in a number of serious conflicts. Though there is some familiarity with the wars in Vietnam and Korea, many other conflicts are relatively unknown—at least when it comes to understanding what went on, or is still going on. We will look at "counter-insurgency," as this phrase has been much in the news, and examine what it means in the context of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Instructor

Nicholas Murray, Ph.D., teaches in the Department of History at the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College. He received his doctorate from the University of Oxford.
