Fighting global warming by reconnecting people to nature.
Young people care about the future, and many are leaders in the fight against global warming. Organizations such as Energy Action Coalition have galvanized thousands of students in an impressive effort to build what it calls “the youth clean energy and climate movement.” The success of future environmentalism also depends on connecting more people personally to the natural world. Especially children.

Chester Nez, 91, the last survivor of the original 29 World War II Navajo Code Talkers, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kansas University on Monday in a recognition ceremony at the Lied Center pavilion. WWII Code Talkers transmitted messages in a code based on the Navajo language that was never broken. Nez was a Marine serving in the Pacific Theater.

Can social media empower sustainable change by adapting "Social Capital" conservancy metrics? Where: SC: Sustainable Change
------------------------ D: Dissatisfaction V: Vision of future state or condition F: F1RST/Next steps to desired state
R: Resistance to change (inertia) =======================
Then: SC = D x V x F > R via http://futurethought.pbwiki.com/ Labels: futurethought

Brooke Burkhart Bushman Thanks for sharing this, Uncle Bob.
Just last night I attended a public meeting in the community where I work. A group of interdisciplinary scientists presented their final report on the current state of the San Pedro River, and not surprisingly, I was one of 2 people in the crowd of 40 under the age of 40! The other was my AmeriCorps intern in her 20s. This morning, one of the local activists emailed the environmental leaders, highlighting this point and calling us to act in engaging youth in caring for the San Pedro.
He is absolutely correct, and I constantly notice how few young people are engaged in the community. It is a unique place, dominated by retirees and a transient military community, mixed with a local ranching community. The target youth are likely those of transient military personnel or ranch kids. I pointed out last night during the meeting that where people often see the military community as unable to engage for their impermanence, this is actually a huge asset.
Through them we can reach out to and educate a community that moves all over this county and possible world. There is tremendous opportunity to expand their horizons regarding water- every place has its own unique water issues. We'll see where this goes, but thanks for sending this very timely article.

The Land Institute is a non-profit research, education, and policy organization dedicated to sustainable agriculture based in Salina, Kansas, United States.
Their goal is to develop an agricultural system based on perennial crops that "has the ecological stability of the prairie and a grain yield comparable to that from annual crops". Source-URL: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Land-Institute/107802772576253?ref=ts&fref=ts
