Nearly 20 KU Business graduate students have already joined

  • Members will have the opportunity to engage in community service projects, network with local business leaders, and educate the local business community about social responsibility issues.
  • Travis Grosser, president of the KU chapter, says five of the members are traveling to the Net Impact annual conference at the end October. “I think the annual conference will be a really good way to kick off our organization. Since we’re new, it will give us an opportunity to meet a lot of people and get a few best-practices ideas. I think that will set us in the right direction as we look forward.”

Globally, Net Impact now has about 80 graduate school chapters

Ian Graeme Barbour ... Bibliography

(b. 1923Beijing, China) is an American scholar on the relationship between science and religion.

According to PBS his mid 1960's Issues in Science and Religion "has been credited with literally creating the contemporary field of science and religion." [1]

Barbour gave the Gifford Lectures from 1989 – 1991 at the University of Aberdeen. These lectures led to the book Religion in an Age of Science. He was awarded the Templeton Prize in 1999[1] for Progress in Religion in recognition of his efforts to create a dialogue between the worlds of science and religion.

Gifford lectures appointment is one of the most prestigious honors in academia. They are normally presented as a series over an academic year and given with the intent that the edited content be published in book form. A number of these works have become classics in the fields of theology or philosophy and their relationship to science

The challenge for our generation is to redirect technology toward realizing human and environmental values on planet earth.

T.S. Eliot Quote (p.176)

from "The Rock" (New York: Harcourt Brace & Co, 1934) p.7:

  • Where is the life we have lost in living?

  • Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?

  • Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?

Changing Values: The reorientation of technology toward justice, participation, and sustainability will require a major change from past attitudes and values. I note first some evidence that for a significant minority in Western industrial societies such a change has already begun. Next, I  suggest that the biblical tradition could make a distinctive contribution, provided the churches are willing to reexamine some of their doctrines and practices. Education, political action, catalytic crises, and the vision of new alternatives offer hope of averting the environmental and social disasters toward which current policies seem to be leading.  (p.258)
